Hey All,
I have a female Dwarf Reticulated Python, never been breed who is about 8 years old and 9 feet long and a male Jungle Carpet Python who is maybe 5-6 feet, a lot skinnier but more or less full grown, also a virgin.
I'm wondering if this has ever been done before (I can't find anything on it), and if it's possible. Any tips or tricks would be really appreciated, I'd be interested in giving these two a go if it's do-able. I have a friend who has male/female retics and carpet pythons, so I can get sheds of each. I hear that can help kick start the breeding.
Thanks in advance!

I wouldnt do it. The size difference between the snakes it to much.
Plus they would never ever ever meet in the wild.

Plus they would never ever ever meet in the wild. WILD!!!! most of the hybrids made never meet in the wild...lol look at Ball X Woma, Ball X Carpet, burm X retic.....you could do this...i think the best way i would try is to have the Dwarf Reticulated be female and you a male carpet.....jungles might be alil small even for a dwarf...but a large coastal might work better. I have seen a big scurb female breeding with a small jag, so it can and will work.... go for it!!!

lance_portal, I saw on your site that you're breeding male carpets and female balls. I'd only ever heard of the male being a ball, have these breedings been successful? If so, do you have any tips for getting them to lock up?
Thanks!
-Tom

-Tom hey tom, yes. On one for my hybrid projects i did try the breeding the other way around. Their was acouple reason for trying this...1st is because its what i had, i only had a male coastal carpet and had a normal ball python. One of the things i have seen from the carpet being the female is that you have alot of the eggs never make it, i thought that using a ball, the eggs are easy to hatch eventhough its a smaller number of eggs....and no one has tryed this breeding with a female ball.

seems to me that hybrid hater should get a life and not post here *coughfwccough* aaaaanyways... considering the retic is the female the size difference may not actually be that much of a problem. I think it would be worth a try! I have seen snakes of the same species breed with each other at ridiculous size differences so not sure why it wouldn't work here as well... assuming the snakes can hit it off.... You will need a female carpet though to get skin from in order to get your male carpet in the mood...

I shall have you know ,my good sir ,that I am not a hybrid hater. I llooovvvveeeeeee the capret x balls ,and the carpondros and the ATB x ETBs. I simply thing a carpet x retic is too much of a size difference.

Depends on the carpet and the retic now doesn't it? I have seen coastal carpets get bigger than line bred dwarf retics.. and DEFINITELY bigger than super dwarfs. theres no reason why this shouldn't work because of size.
BTW I am not a "sir"

BTW I am not a "sir" Sorry for calling you a sir ,my good women. atleast now we are all clear. Also a dwrf x JCP would make the retic side dwarf ,right ?? If so ,I would go for it. I just thought the super dwarf gene wouldnt carry on. In a way im pretty stupid ,concidering the burmball is just dandy ,and the parents size difference was HUGE !!
